Brief Description of Activity:

Students will go to a website (http://www/stemnet.nf.ca/CITE/matter.htm) and research from the electronic resource the nature and properties of solids, liquids, and gases. After reviewing this on their own, they will take the quiz on the website. After completing the quiz, they will interpret the information with groups and create posters on the nature and properties of solids, liquids, and gases.

General Learner Outcome:

Describe the properties and interactions of various household liquids, solids, and gases and interpret their interactions

Specific Learner Outcomes:

learn the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and how they interact
apply and evaluate a variety of techniques for separating different materials
identify mixtures of solid-solid, liquid-solid, gas-solid mixtures etc
create a poster in groups after researching the subject matter and completing the quiz online

ICT Outcomes:
C.6.1.3 use technology to support and present conclusions

C.7.1.2 summarize data by picking key words from gathered information and by using jottings, point form, or retelling

C.7.1.3 draw conclusions from organized information

Rationale for Computer Integration:

This exercise will teach students how to research information on online resources, interpret the information, and apply it to a project in the classroom. It will teach them appropriate methods of picking out the key information from a large volume of it.

There were many things that I saw wrong with the power point in the assignment. I made the following changes in order to make it more efficient:

1. Added a background to first slide
2. Enlarged and altered title to stand out more
3. Animated the title and all of the text to more suitable timing
throughout the slide show.
4. Fixed spelling and grammatical errors
5. Broke down large text boxes into different separate parts to simplify
the slides
6. Changed all text to same font
7. On the third slide, I enlarged the text
8. I changed the background and text colors to make the content more
readable and aesthetically pleasing

Hi,
My name is Kyle. I am currently a student at the University of Lethbridge. I have spent the previous three years completing the first half of my combined degree which was a general major in the sciences. I was excited to find out this summer that I was accepted into the Faculty of Education.I grew up in a very small town called Acadia Valley in Southeastern Alberta. I am the middle child in the family having one older and one younger sister. I feel myself lucky to have grown up in a small town and a farm. I went to elementary school and middle school at Warren Peers School in Acadia Valley and attended high school in Oyen at South Central High. Growing up I was involved in a lot of sports such as baseball, hockey, volleyball, etc. I am a very active person and I hope that my experiences will reflect through my teaching in PSI.
